WTF is it with the stripper rumors???

topic posted Fri, February 22, 2008 - 6:51 PM by  Caleena
When I started dancing, I would hear gossip about other girls in class or outside of class.
I would hear a lot of this "stripper" name calling. Of course, I never believe anything until I see it.
Years later, I leave MD and all of a sudden IM a "stripper"! WHAT???
I think it has blown over but some of my own teachers and friends would not let me dance in DC/VA/MD shows until the rumor died. This makes no sense. Why dont you let me prove myself instead of keeping me out of the public eye, so people can assume I truely did disappear into stripper land???
Anywho, now I am hearing shit about a couple of my fellow bellydancer friends. THE SAME "stripper" SH#T!!! Why is it always coming down to strippers? If youre going to be an asswipe and start rumors, than just say something interesting....like; "Did you hear that Caleena lives with illegal aliens and prostitutes herself to them for a free place to live??? LOL!! Or some crap like that. STOP the stripper rumors! It is hurting careers for respectable women!!!

Holy shit! Talk about catty movement right there. WOW! O.o Make sure you tell your teachers and friends about these rumors...tell them they are just that- RUMORS! They are not true words and those women who say that about you need to grow a set and quit playing 10 year old roles.

Personally I like "lady of the night" myself. ;-p

Well, I personally don't see anything wrong with strippers, I feel like they often get a bad wrap PARTICULARLY in the bellydance community...I digress.
but it still doesn't chane the fact that it sucks when people are so cunty and and that rumors are not nice. I go to a womens college so I know extra well first hand that having a lot of women together always creates some sort of false competition which assures the grand entrance of cattiness. Why can't people get over themselves? It makes me wonder how people can actually heal with bellydance with all this drama floating around. At least it helps you form a thick skin...
    bleah.

Yeah, thats what this tribe is for.....bitching about drama. Here it is!
I know strippers. And the ones I know are drug addicts/alcoholics that have kids by a dad that they dont even know. I just dont wanna get confused with these kind of strippers. I did meet a couple that I loved and one of them is my best friend. I see how men treat her because of what she does. And sadly, its not respectable. Im just saying, I dont need to be tied into this kind of shit. Simple as that. Apparently some people dont know what its like to be a respectable bellydancer, working for ethnic guys, who think she leaves that night to go strip! People DO treat you differently no matter what anyone says.

Maybe it's the only reason this person/people can come up with for anyone who leaves the area? :)
Someone's bored, so they're starting rumors. Don't let them fuel your anger otherwise they will most certainly feel accomplished.

That's the "worst" they can come up with? I've had several former strippers dance with me and you would never know it by watching them perform. They didn't blend the two professions and were always classy. So I say a big fat, "So what?" to people being a stripper and belly dancer or a former stripper.

Now, if they were trying to say that you were a stripping bellydancer, I think that just brings the whole profession down and is dumb on their part. What you do as a professional reflects on them because it creates public opinion.

The whole thing sounds like some really petty, not well-thought-out crap that I wouldn't worry too much about. I wouldn't want it happening to me either, but it's more of a reflection on how dumb and small they are.

I agree with motherpuffer. I personally don't have a problem with strippers either. And I personally consider pole dancing to be an athletic art form, as I do for belly dance/raks sharki. That's discrimination, plain and simple. If you were a construction worker, or a truck driver, or a myriad of other things, is that a premise that decides whether you can dance or not? I'd like to hope they don't think that! I'm really sorry this has happened to you, maybe you should give those bitches a nice long talk about getting their heads stuck out of their asses.

Ill say it again, no problems with strippers as my BEST friend is one! I see men treat her like a fuck toy, when she is way beyond that! And I have taken pole dancing classes, and they were great! All ages and sizes. Everyone had a blast busting thier heads on the floor and whatnot.....the PROBLEM Im pissed about is, not letting me into shows because of false words. Now, no one knows who the frig I am! Thanks MD! Caleena has been forgotten.

And I am much too shy to actually pole dance in public. Good for you who can. I just wanted the workout! Its funny how there wasnt ONE stripper in that class. LOL!

A MD area person actually sent out about 1000 e-mails saying I was a nude exotic dancer and hiring dancers. Luckily at the end she spelled my name wrong. And then she posted other dancers I supposedly hired, including Synari and Angel d'Mort on Tribe. It was posted in guestbooks, sent out all over....on mailing lists, too. You can imagine the hate mail I got.....but luckily my name stood for itself and a lot of people dismissed it as hacking......women are the worst, seriously.

You too???? Jeez! You are one of the kindest and most respectable in my book. Who in the hell would say that about you??? Assholes, I swear! Anywho, I think youre great Rom!

That's terrible. Its obviously a reflection on the person(s) spreading the rumors. Don't lower yourself to their level by slinging shit back at them. Just let it roll off you and focus your energy on campaigning positively for yourself instead of negatively against others. People will appreciate you more for it .

Rom dances and sells sparkles… Strippers wear sparkles? ;-p Joking. But seriously I don't have a problem with strippers or anything like that, but not letting you dance at venues and things is ridiculous. Come on! Maybe you're just a fab dancer and they are shocked so they start shit....blagh! Lame ass tactics!

Ya know, I like not to think that. I hate to be hated....why??? Man, I may be a typical angry, young, person, but damn, dont prey on my sensitivity and (what you THINK is nievity)
              Im flame retardant!! LOL!!!!
But really now??? Ya know??? Is this anger about this due to my hormones??? Taaj, April, etc...you are all right. I really shouldnt let it get into me. But your words make it easier to make shit roll right off someones shoulders. I deeply appreciate it, but still get angered when OTHER girls go through this!!! Its like PTSD, history repeating istelf. I cannot help but defend people....shouldve gone to law school!

You have every right to be angry about this, someone is intentionally trying to hurt you. It sucks when people gossip about you because there isn't much you can do to change the gossippers' opinions. This sort of crap is like water torture, it's a constant drip, drip, drip of malevolence that corrodes your well-being. The nature of gossip also makes it next to impossible to target its source, when you respond with "who told you that?" all you get in return is a mumbled "everyone's saying it." These kind of stupid rumors are damaging, entire books have been written about how rumors and gossip ruin womens' lives. Muhammad's wife Aisha almost had her life destroyed by a rumor, Joan of Arc was demoralized by rumors that she was a prostitute, thousands of women in Europe and North America lost their lives because of rumors of witchcraft. Gossip and rumors hurt, and sometimes they kill.
So please, don't feel bad about being angry. You're a good person who's been treated poorly and you have every right to be mad about that.

Sometimes I think we could learn something from men (I know...hard to imagine but true). Men don't stand for this kind of non-professional bull sh*t. This is slander and illegal. Do what the men do...find out who is saying this and sue them. Someone doesn't let you dance because of these slanderous rumors, threaten legal action. I don' think that this has happened to me, but it's got to stop.

No - sueing isn't pretty, and no, some people will not agree...but why in the name of "being the bigger person" do we have to continually get "it" up the butt? People on the sueing end of the stick...just remeber, it's not personal, it's the law. Slander someone...and you'll meet the judge.

    slan·der /ˈslændər/
    –noun
    1. defamation; calumny: rumors full of slander.
    2. a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report: a slander against his good name.
    3. Law. defamation by oral utterance rather than by writing, pictures, etc.
    –verb (used with object)
    4. to utter slander against; defame.
    –verb (used without object)
    5. to utter or circulate slander.

Women out there (who are probably not on this tribe and therefore not reading this), stop attacking your 'fellow' ladies. Just stop. It's just poison from within.

      CJ,

I'm sorry you're going though this but you can and will rise above it. Stay strong & confident & do not let it consume you. You have better things to do.

Ignore the rumors and people that listen to them. 100 to 1 I'm sure those that have started these rumors or continue to fan the flames on vicious & slanderous statements have NEVER asked for YOUR side of the story but only listened to the rumors. It makes them feel big and powerful in their small universe. Such a waste of energy and a very sad reflection on their principals & life.

Document, document, document. You never know when you may need it.

Say a prayer for them. Good always wins out over evil. Watch karma catch up.

      All the best!

SUPPOSEDLY, two strippers walked into the dance store I used to work at. They saw a picture of me and said, "Oh wow, she is with us now." This came out of the managers mouth, who was also my roomate. So I asked her, "Did you tell them thats a lie???" She comes off as a kind little petite sweetheart, but proved otherwise when she allowed these girls to say this about me, and when the other employees started asking questions, she STILL did not take my back. She would answer them with, "I dont know."
So let me tell you the REAL reason why Im upset....
Not only did this screw up my chances of dancing in respectable events, but also got me fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, I finally said it. They freakin fired me because they "didnt want a bad name"
Yes, this COULD go to court. Im just too stressed and tired and fear losing this battle, as the son of the man who fired me is a politician.
I am still upset over it, and thats why I came to NJ. To abandon all forms of hate that were persistant in my life. But turns out, it wants to follow me.

Sue!!!! LOL. Really CJ, you need to pusue this. I'll be behind you as well. There is no reason for Dancer to claim they "dont want a bad name". That is sickening! I cant believe you were compared to stupid non-dancing fools that have to hold onto a pole to keep thier balance! They do nothing but exploit women and you did not deserve to be a part of that! As for those who wont invite you into thier shows because of these rumors, FUCK THEM! They are the ones you should target.
